Esra Nilgün Mirze, founder of an Istanbul-based independent art network, will be presented with the Cultural Prize Europa of the KulturForum Europa, a union established by former German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher to promote development of culture and communication in Europe.
Mirze, will receive the award for her 41°-29° Istanbul Network project, a cultural network aimed at constituting bridges of cultures between Istanbul and other European cities, to create long-term and permanent cooperation and to support young artists for intercultural interaction.
The project was founded on the occasion of Istanbul's being a European Capital of Culture, the 41°-29° Istanbul Network was reinforced even at the founding stage by the appreciation and support letters from Robert Palmer, who prepared the European Cultural Capital Report; Vladimir Ashkenazy, the renown chief and pianist of the European Union Youth Orchestra; James Wolfensohn, the ex-president of the World Bank; and internationally acclaimed conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim.
The award ceremony will be held Thursday at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall. Renowned Italian artist Eugenio Bennato will also attend the ceremony and perform a concert to support the project.
