Lufthansa Turkey Director Gregor Wende said Thursday that the airline would begin direct flights between the German city of Munich and Turkey’s southwestern province Antalya at the weekends as of April.
Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, Wende said the aviation sector in 2010 grew 22 percent.
"Lufthansa grew 26 percent in 2010. Last year was a year of success for us, but we have not reached the figures we had at the end of 2008," Wende said.
"2011 seems to be a very promising year. The sector continues to improve. The number of reservations for the first six months of 2011 has increased by about 25 percent when compared to the same period last year. We expect the aviation sector to grow 15 percent in 2011, and we expect Lufthansa to grow 20 percent," Wende said.
"In 2010, we began flights between Bursa and Munich. As of April 1, 2011 we will begin flights between Munich and Antalya. We plan to serve our flights to Turkey with bigger passenger jets," Wende also said.
