A Turkey-based website selling fashionable clothes to covered women is receiving great interest, according to the site’s founder.
“Our customers include first lady Hayrünnisa Gül, the prime minister’s wife Emine Erdoğan, and Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan’s wife Zeynep Babacan,” founder of the yesiltopuklar.com site Zeynep Akaba told daily Radikal. The site’s name means “green heels” in English.
Gül has reportedly bought four “burkinis,” a piece of clothing that combines the words “burqa” – an Islamic garment that fully covers the body – and “bikini,” Radikal has learned.
Zareena Yousif, Valentino and Burberry are among the most famous brands on the yesiltopuklar.com website, she said. The color green stands for Islam in most Muslim countries.
The website also provides links to hotels and restaurants that operate according to the tenets of Islamic faith.
Users may also open links on the website to videos of how to wear different styles of head coverings.
The site sells a number of global brands, including Dolce & Gabbana, Viktor & Rolf, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Cacharel, Gucci, Silk & Cashmire headscarves and dresses and Rayban sunglasses.
According to data gather by Radikal, the Islamic women’s clothing market in Turkey has reached an annual value of $2.9 billion.
