US not taking sides in Tunisia unrest: Clinton

Washington is not taking sides amid escalating unrest in Tunisia but rather calling for a peaceful solution, United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in an interview with Al-Arabiya television.
"We are not taking sides" regarding the deadly clashes between protesters and government forces in Tunisia, an English-language transcript of the interview received by AFP on Wednesday reported Clinton as saying.
"But we are saying we hope that there can be a peaceful resolution. And I hope that the Tunisian government can bring that about," she said.
Tunisia's Foreign Ministry summoned U.S. Ambassador Gordon Gray on Monday after the U.S. State Department expressed concerns about "reports of the use of excessive force by the government of Tunisia" against demonstrators.
Clinton is currently on a tour of the Gulf which has so far taken her to United Arab Emirates, Yemen and Oman. She is expected to conclude the tour in Qatar.
