Turkey to compete in Eurovision semi-finals in May

Turkey is scheduled to compete in the semi-finals of the 56th Eurovision Song Contest on May 10.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2011 will be held in Dusseldorf, Germany between May 10 and 14, with Turkey being presented by the band Yüksek Sadakat. A total of 43 countries have registered entries in this year’s contest.
Rock Band Yuksek Sadakat was formed in 1997 and became widely popular in early 2005 with their album of the same name. The bass player used to be the editor of a music magazine called “Blue Jean.” Their music is a mix of pop and rock, with powerful beats, that makes use of Turkish instruments, keyboards and guitar solos. The name of the band is a literal translation of the term “high fidelity” into Turkish. Their second album "Katil & Maktul" was released in 2008.
Turkey will compete against Albania, Finland, Armenia, Switzerland, Norway, Georgia, Russia, Poland, Serbia, Croatia, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, San Marino, Iceland, Portugal and Greece in the first semi-final performances of the contest on May 10.
Netherlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Greek Cyprus, Austria, Sweden, Belgium, Slovakia, Moldova, Israel, Macedonia, Denmark, Belarus, Latvia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Romania, Slovenia and Ireland will compete on the second semi-final day on May 12.
A total of 25 countries will compete in the final once the semi-finals have been completed. Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Britain will automatically join the final set to take place on May 14.
