Some vehicles that were parked near the bar in Istanbul's Beyoğlu district were damaged during the gunfight between the police and the suspects.
The bullet that hit and killed a passerby during an altercation in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district on the weekend was shot by a police officer, Doğan news agency reported Tuesday.
A police investigation into a fight that allegedly erupted over a dispute regarding the ownership of a bar in popular Balo Street that caused the death of two people and injured three more showed that one of the bar’s two owners, Ercan B., transferred his share in the venue to Abdülkabi Karakuş.
The bar’s third shareholder, Fatih H., allegedly objected to this and fought with Karakuş. According to claims, Karakuş took out his gun and fired, sparking a shootout.
When police intervened, suspects in the shootout fled. Police investigations have revealed that Aziz Şenel, a passerby, was shot by a police officer involved in a fight with one of the suspects. He was pronounced dead after being rushed to hospital.
Suspect Ali Özman was killed at the scene of the fight and Fatih H., Mehmet İzzet K. and Mehmet Salih O. were injured.
Karakuş was taken into custody by police, who apprehended a further six men on suspicion of public brawling and discharging weapons.
The seven suspects appeared at the Beyoğlu Courthouse on Tuesday.
