Istanbul University’s Career Development Center is collaborating with global social network provider XING to establish Turkey’s first official career network for students. The project aims to create opportunities for Istanbul University students to have access to accomplished graduates for future employment opportunities as well as for connecting all its students, graduates and academics through one online portal where they can exchange career ideas

Istanbul University’s Career Development Center, or KAGEM, and the leading social network provider for businesses XING have collaborated on establishing Turkey’s first official career network for students.
The project aims to create an opportunity for Istanbul University students to have access to accomplished graduates for future employment opportunities, to be able to benefit from experts’ advices both from Turkey and internationally, and also to have the chance to direct their career development in an international platform, according to a press release from the university.
The system works by user profiles formed by the students and XING provides a user-focused infrastructure to facilitate a convenient process for the students, the press release said.
“Social business networks provide amazing opportunities for new graduates and students to express their personal qualities and their career targets. Our network will also help them reach accomplished and well-established businessmen who are graduates of the same university. Our students will not only contact them for future employment opportunities but also, we believe, they will greatly benefit from the business professionals’ experience and good advice. Having discovering that such a platform which complies with today’s tendencies and technologies is hugely needed in Turkey and by our students we have started to develop this project.”
The Istanbul University Career Development Center’s ultimate aim with the project is to connect its more than 70,000 students with thousands of graduates, as well as academics all on the same platform where they can make contact with each other and share ideas.
Also speaking about Turkey’s first official social business network project, XING Turkey General Manager Hakan Gönenli said: “As XING we are targeting to provide efficient solutions to all sorts of career-related problems. The Internet is changing career-forming procedures as it is changing all contemporary paradigms in the world. We hope that this social business network project we are so proud to have developed in collaboration with KAGEM will solidify our position as a support provider to students, new graduates and job hunters.”

“In today’s world, which requires going beyond traditional methods for job hunting, social business networks have become the most applied solutions for all sorts of career-oriented demands,” said KAGEM General Manager Ayşe Ayçiçeği-Dinn, adding that job hunters often first search on the Internet when they seek information about companies to figure out those that best align with their career targets.
