Defending champion Fenerbahçe Ülker defeated Efes Pilsen 81-72 on Monday in a rematch of last season’s Beko Basketball League playoff final.
Croatian guard Marko Tomas poured in 22 points to power his team to the win, while it was veteran playmaker Kerem Tunçeri who led Efes Pilsen in scoring with 18 points.
Lithuanian star Sarunas Jasikevicius made his debut appearance for Fenerbahçe and dished out three assists in 12 minutes.
However, Efes Pilsen filed a complaint against the Lithuanian’s appearance, since he was granted a Turkish league eligibility license only on Monday. The match was previously scheduled for Sunday, so it would have been against the rules for Jasikevicius to play against Efes, the Istanbul team claimed. The Turkish Basketball Federation will decide on Efes’ complaint.
Meanwhile, Turkish champion Fenerbahçe Ülker was drawn to play against Olympiacos, Zalgiris Kaunas and Valencia in Group G of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague as the Top 16 draws were made on Tuesday.
Efes Pilsen was placed in Group H along with Montepaschi Siena, Real Madrid and Partizan.
The Top 16 games will start on Jan. 19 and will end on March 3.
