| Cirque de Soleil's 'Saltim-banco' has been met by huge demand in Turkey. |
World-renowned Canadian circus company Cirque du Soleil (Circus of the Sun) has yet to stage its first show in Istanbul, yet huge demand has already convinced organizers to add six more shows to the schedule.
The company was scheduled to perform one of its most famous and longest-running shows, “Saltimbanco,” in Istanbul between Feb. 19 and March 4, but huge demand has added another six shows to the bill.
In total, there will be 16 shows on the circus’ tour stop, which is being sponsored by Akbank and organized by Pozitif.
With a fascinating combination of modern dance and acrobatics, Cirque du Soleil has reached millions of viewers on five continents in a number of major performance halls and at a number of events, including the Academy Awards.
“Saltimbanco,” a unique show narrating “the urban experience in all its forms,” literally means “a jump on a bench” in Italian and combines acrobatics and theatrical performance in a visually breathtaking fashion.
With a cast of 50 high-caliber artists hailing from 20 different countries, the show features astonishing acrobatics and unbelievable athleticism during solo spotlights and epic ensembles. Technical expertise and extravagant design are woven together by uplifting, spectacular costumes, amazing lighting, humor and enchanting music and magic.
World-famous performance group Cirque du Soleil was created in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Laliberté and Daniel Gauthier. Its creations have received numerous prizes and distinctions, including a Bambi Award in 1997, a Rose d'Or in 1989, Drama Desk Awards in 1991 and 1998, three Gemini Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards, as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Tickets for the six additional performances are on sale at Biletix.
