The Deloitte survey finds that overall hotel experience is important to a majority of business travelers
A survey conducted by Deloitte’s Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure, or THL, arm has indicated that many anticipate increased corporate travel in 2011, representing a welcome boost in customer demand for the hospitality and travel sectors.
By the end of 2011, 80 percent of business travelers surveyed predicted they will take either the same number of business trips or more than they did in 2010, while 79 percent of respondents said that they expected to spend the same amount of money or more on business travel.
Due to the recession, 72 percent of survey respondents monitored their business travel expenses in various ways last year. In particular, 37 percent of these business travelers said they had cut back on overall travel expenditure, 33 percent had stayed away for shorter periods and 32 percent spent less on food and restaurants. More than one in five booked less expensive hotel rooms.
Additionally, nearly three in five, or 59 percent, of respondents whose companies had corporate travel policies felt the guidelines were now more strictly enforced. Among the top five guidelines noted by respondents, 50 percent said pre-trip approval for business travel was the most strictly observed.
The Deloitte survey found that overall hotel experience is important to a majority of business travelers.
Roughly two-thirds, or 68 percent, of respondents agreed that they often worked in their rooms, while 65 percent said they expected a lot more from a hotel than just a clean room and comfortable bed. Furthermore, almost four out of five respondents, or 79 percent, felt that high-speed Internet was an important factor in deciding where to stay, 77 percent said free car parking was also an important amenity.
